quitters never win, winners never quit, but those who don't win and don't quit are losers.

Managed to catch the sneak preview of Elektra this week. Thanks to Selwyn, managed to get free tickets. Again. Well, good thing it was free, cos the movie was pretty bad. First things first. Elektra's weapons. No, they're not called pitchforks. Neither are they called skewers. And goodness, they're not pokers. They're actually called sai. Which, incidentally, is the term I would also use to describe the movie. The plot and storyline was hazy. Not complicated, not confusing, just hazy and riddled with loopholes. Elektra's character, like the other characters, totally underdeveloped. Note: Elektra was underdeveloped. Jennifer Garner was fully developed =P And the 'bad guys'. Oh wow. Let's see, there's this guy called stone, who's very big and hard like stone. He got killed by a falling tree. There's this guy called tattoo, who has a lot of powerful tattoos. There's this girl called typhoid, who spreads typhoid. Full marks for creativity. And since they died so easily, might as well add in a few more bad guys. Call them Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit and Owl for that matter. It won't matter, they'd all be dead in seconds. You know how typhoid died? Elektra used her mind to guide her sai through the maze forest to stab her. Homing sai. I was wondering why Elektra does not use her homing sai power on everyone. That'll take 2 hours off the movie. Oh wait, there was one more bad guy. The japanese illusionist samurai guy. Ooohh mystical. Yeah he died while poledancing with Elektra. He got stabbed and thrown into the well. Overall, I give the movie 1.5/5 guinnesses. But because I am so attracted to Jennifer Garner, I give the movie 6 guinnesses. She was totally elektrifying. You need an extra popcorn bag to contain your drool. When she adorns that red outfit, wow. Willie was saying that if there's a sequel, it should be called Elektra 2: Elektra poledances. I think there'll be more than one sequel. At the rate the movie's going, there'll be like what, 17 sequels? And by that time, it'll be Elektra 17: Menopause strikes. Ok better stop, don't wanna make Jennifer angry. Soundtrack's fantastic, with loads of rock tracks and evanescence, but unfortunately the songs weren't very well used in the movie.

Hotel Rwanda was another thing altogether. Emotionally captivating. Very riveting, tough stuff. It's based on a true story about the Rwanda civil war, about how one man opened his hotel and heart to 1000 refugees, regardless of which tribe they belonged to. Of course this had serious implications, but he puts his intelligence and people skills to good use and in the end, after so many near death encounters, betrayals of trust both by foreign aid(which turned out to be a bunch of cowards) and by his own people, as well as emotional breakdowns, he managed to bring them to safety. 4.5/5 guinnesses. Would have gotten full marks if not for a mediocre soundtrack. Also, in the real world, the endings are seldom that happy. Hell, as i'm sitting here typing this, things like this are happening right now in Africa. People are getting killed, taken hostage, tortured. It's just so sad. There's no other way to describe it. And there's nothing we can do about it except read about it in a small insignificant column in the newspapers, sandwiched in between reports on how our armed forces are getting lavish praises for the work in Indonesia and another report comparing how much religious organisations donate to the disaster. I'm not putting down the tsunami issue, i'm just well, questioning. Nothing I can do bout it anyway. I'll just dedicate a song.

Summer has come and past.
The innocent can never last.
Wake me up when September ends.

Like my fathers come to pass,
Seven years has gone so fast.
Wake me up when September ends.

Here comes the rain again,
Falling from the stars.
Drenched in my pain again,
Becoming who we are.
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost.
Wake me up when September ends.

Green Day - Wake me up when September ends

Also watched Shall we dance, the feel-good movie starring Richard Gere and J.Lo. Gere, despite his age, still looks as charming as ever, and J.Lo, well, still looks peeleepeeno. I was never a fan of hers anyway. So yeah, it's a heartwarming movie about latin dance, the kind where you go awww, ooohhh and wowww during the movie but realise that that's all after watching it. Ok la Ok la I admit, that's not all la. After watching it I wanted to sign up for ballroom dancing lessons at Chai Chee CC. Which i think i will, sooner or later. I think later la. And yeah, a little lovesick too. Sigh. It's not that i'm desperately pining to get attached, but yeah it'd be nice to have someone to spoil, to have that someone special who'll be by your side. I mean I kinda have that already, but I'd prefer something that's not stuffed and less beary-shaped.

"All...By...Myself...Don't wanna be, All...By..Myself...Anymore anymore ANYMORE..." Ok snap out of it. Movie gets 3.5/5 guinnesses. Soundtrack's good.

So I was at the Tampines library on Friday. There was a staring incident. Yes, a staring incident. In the library. It involved this guy who looks like one whose nick on IRC would be xIao^boi or aH-bLuR~ or |aKiRA^siAnz|. He was reading his home and decor magazine(hahaha) when he suddenly jolted up and shouted at the guy opposite. "Stare what stare? @#!$. Not happy ah, want to fight?! @#$%%$#@$! You keep looking at me, of course I not happy la! Bloody $#%@$#$!" The funny thing is that after he shouted, the entire library was staring at him. I mean, look, if you wanna start a staring incident, go back to 1990 when it was the in-thing. And you're reading a home and decor magazine, so it's natural that people will stare. Get used to it, Pablo. But my friend was the funniest. There was an awkward silence in the library after the shouting, and he broke it by suddenly exclaiming, "HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WASSUP WITH THESE PEOPLE MAN?? JOKERS!" Hilarious.

There's a pretty good sappy love ballad playing on mainstream radio currently, and it's called 'True', by ryan cabrera. It's one of my favourite songs currently hitting the airwaves. Weiting says that the lyrics suck, that it's a bad attempt at rhyming, that the 'it's true' at the end of every sentence is redundant. I was listening to it, well I guess the lyrics aren't that well thought out. But you know, for some songs, especially love ballads, the lyrics don't really make a lot of sense, they don't quite fit the melody or that they're real simple. But as a whole, when everything's put together, the song's still pretty good. Just like Hoobastank's 'the reason'. Or any songs by Simple Plan. I don't know, to me, a good song is one that either puts images in your head(for example, Suede's Everything will flow, Oasis's Wonderwall, Sixpence's There she goes...all those songs bring to mind images of gloomy London sidewalks, that kinda thing.), or that their lyrics and/or melodies hit home emotionally. A great song is one that fulfills both criterion. A bad song is anything by Sylvester. Okok kidding, I personally love his 'Keeys from a rose', 'Mewseek of the night' and 'Pigture of you'.

Oh but if I really have to pick a horrible, revolting song that's currently hitting the airwaves, it's definitely this one called 'Drop it like it's hot' by the worst artiste in the world, Snoop Dogg. Featuring Pharrell. Phailure more like. When I first heard it, I thought it was a trailer advertisement for some bak kwa company. Anyway any song by someone feat. someone usually turns out pretty bad. Jojo featuring bow wow, Nelly feat. Tim McGraw, Ciara feat. Missy Elliot. On the contrary, Linkin Park AND Jay-Z. Usher AND Alicia Keys. Taufik AND Sylvester. Ok la there are exceptions to the rule.

This blog entry is more like some entertainment report card. Sorry about the length. Anyway i'm off to bed now. Night.
