monkeycrap's Diaryland Diary

As I ramble through life, whatever be my goal, I will unfortunately keep my eye upon the doughnut and not upon the whole. - Wendy Wasserstein

Man oh man it's been quite awhile. Where do I start?

The army dinner at parkway last week was a joke. Theme for dinner was something like 'Save water, drink beer'. Anyway, yes, there was a free flow of beer and people were certainly making full use of that privilege, gulping down jugfuls after jugfuls and getting totally wasted, some even before the 1st dish, some yin-yang platter, arrived. Just as well, cause it tasted pretty much like poo-poo-platter anyway.

But alcohol can really do wonders. It's uber interesting to see how people react when they're totally drunk. Yeah, there're the wobbly bits who can't stand up straight, and there're those that can cover the entire marine parade with their puke. But the award for the biggest joke would have to go to this specialist from my unit, a regular, who on regular days is pretty serious about his work. 3 jugs. That's all it took. He was walking around in circles chasing his tail after that. He was going around giving hi-fives. And missing most of them. And the best part. In the toilet, he was peeing, one hand in the air and the other you know where, and dancing with the urinal to some swahilli-hokkien folk tune he was mumbling to himself. I would've rolled on the restaurant toilet floor in laughter, but it was too covered in puke.

I must admit, I had a little more than I needed myself, and after the glass of vodka at k-box after the dinner, I was pretty much staggering with Jason(a friend from camp) around the parkway parade belt, banging into obstacles along the way(how was I to know that an atm booth would suddenly appear in front of my face?). And at one point, Jason was like, "Argh I can't take it, i'm going home to sleep," and climbed into the back of a stationary lorry la! That was the ultimate. But anyway, we weren't THAT dazed and managed to make it back in one piece. Interesting experience.

The rest of last week and this week was spent meeting up with friends, some of whom I got to know through my part-time course. Spent some time talking to them over drinks at bala, where i'd learn a great deal about the working world and how to survive. It's a little weird considering that they're all 30+ years old, but they gave me some rather invaluable advice. They also told me about their travels to Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and all other abnormal destinations. Envy, envy, envy!

PK came from Australia, crashing at my place for 2 nights. Great fun catching up and meeting friends, some of whom i've not seen since the end of jc. And of course, the German crash course given by Minyu, where we learnt very life-essential phrases. "Kann ich sie telephone numer haben bitte?" (Can I have your telephone number?)"Sier schoen!"(Very pretty!) and of course, "Das habe ich nicht ver standen."(I don't understand).

After meeting up with these friends who've seemed to travel like half the world already, I must say, the travel spark in me has been rekindled. Can't wait to start on my own travels. Oh, but I need the cash to do so hor. How ah?

Oh yeah, national day. Nope, didn't feel the spirit, as usual, and yep, the standard of national day songs has gone down yet another notch with taufik's singing. The way he strains his voice ah, really like reaching out for the skies man. But I do love Singapore. Yeah of course, lack of freedom of everything, terrible tv productions like my assy neighbour, control control control, NS, stressful education, the list goes on. But well, cheap cabs, cheap movies, great friends that you'll never find in individualistic other countries, great food, weird aunties, freaky uncles, safe streets. I guess for me, the pros outweigh the cons. Anyway we're opening up what. 4 guys were arrested at the park below my place for having consensual sex with a 12 year old at the same time. See?

Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams, she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye..
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky..
