monkeycrap's Diaryland Diary

and a Happy New Year to you too.

A wonderful start to the year. After getting recalled back to camp and working into the wee hours of the morning and the whole of New Year's eve, finally managed to get out in the evening to countdown to 2005. And it went great. Basically met Selwyn and Binny at City Hall, counted down at the Esplanade, walked to the Padang where Binny left, sat on the steps of City Hall itself by the Padang and chatted with Selwyn till 2 plus am, proceeding to crash at the lobby of Raffles the Plaza hotel, got chased out at 5.30am, went back to the Esplanade to watch the sun rise.

Man, the Esplanade at 6am, stunning in all its beauty. Sat along the water's edge, with a group of malay guys and their sound system which blasted good music. It's pretty ironic. The first song that greeted us at 12am on 1st Jan 2005? I Dream by Taufik Batisah. The first song that played as we watched the first morning light appear? Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day. Oh well. But it's a fantastic song to start the first morning of 2005. Serves as a nice wake-up call. If there's anything 2004 taught me, it's that life is so darn unpredictable. All one's dreams, hopes, resolutions can be so easily wiped away by wrong decisions, evil people, or huge tidal waves for that matter. Anyway. Cooling monsoon breezes accompanied the break of dawn and after a while the horizon got a little blurry. The blurriness came closer and closer and before we knew it, sudden downpour. For some reason the sound system played My Boo.

To all my friends reading this, have a blessed and eventful year ahead.
