Canada trip - Day 6

Day 6 - Social studies

Was invited by the family to join them in church, which I did. The service itself, not much different from the few churches I've been to here in Singapore. Sermon on 'communion' was really quite good though. Can't quite recall the entire thing, but I'm pretty sure it hovered around the gist of not having too high expectations of others. As well as not judging people, especially the extent of their faith, based on their intellectual capacity. And it really feels kinda heartwarming, the coming together of people from all walks of life, with different perspectives on various issues, in faith, the common thread binding them all.

Spent the good part of the rest of the day joining Carrie and her Korean friends in their own mini service, and for a drink at Tim Horton's after that. Was aware of the fact that I could be landing myself in a potentially awkward social situation, considering the language barrier. A bit like Bob Harris in 'Lost In Translation', although not to that huge an extent. But, well, its not that I've not been in these sort of peculiar social situations whereby you sit around people, having not much clue as to what they're talking about. I mean, hello, wedding dinners?

And it turned out great anyway. The hanging out with Carrie's Korean friends, I mean, not the wedding dinners. Those I'm normally too stuffed to bother about the outcome. But yeah, the hanging out. They're a bunch of nice people, very affable.

How'd I describe Koreans in general? Determined. Meticulate. United in their love for self. Not the friendliest of people, but warm and sincere once you get to know them. Very expressive. Demanding. Passionate.

Went for cheesecake (again) with Carrie, where we just sat down and talk. About problems, mainly. It feels weird to say this, and probably quite sad as well, but talking about problems, felt like the good ol' days la. Haha.
